12-year-old among 15 arrested by Jacksonville Beach police during busy Memorial Day weekend

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Florida – A 12-year-old was among 15 arrests made by the Jacksonville Beach Police Department (JBPD) on the busy Memorial Day weekend.

One of the incidents that police responded to was a potential unauthorized event that was reported to have occurred near the pier on Monday at 2 p.m.

JBPD said the crowd was closely monitored throughout the afternoon and several minor disturbances were quickly contained to prevent larger incidents.

Police said participants began leaving the beach around 7 p.m., but officers kept an eye on crowds remaining in the city.

Officials said they received a report of a victim needing assistance in the 300 block of Third Street North around 9 p.m.

The victim was a 16-year-old who was taken to hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg. The victim told police the shooting occurred at 100 2nd Avenue North.

Detectives are investigating leads and information on suspects is limited.

Police then reported that at approximately 11 p.m., a woman reported that a group of men aggressively showed her a gun while she was walking near the pier.

Officers responded and managed to arrest the suspects.

The 12-year-old was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a minor.

A 17-year-old co-defendant was also charged with possession of a firearm by a minor.
