Charges of sexual assault were made

Nearly a year after an incident that allegedly occurred on a walking path in the West End neighborhood, a Kamloops man has been charged with sexual assault.

According to Mounties, the incident occurred on July 9 last year just after 9 p.m., when a man approached a woman from behind on a path and grabbed her for sexual purposes.

Police say an argument occurred during which the victim broke free and the man fled towards Strathcona Terrace.

Following the incident, Mounties issued a public warning and requested video and information from anyone who may have been in the area.

“The investigation has since progressed with the support of our General Investigations Support Team and the Sexual Offenses Unit, which has led us to the next stage of the legal process where the suspect has been charged and will stand trial,” Kamloops Dodz. RCMP, Jeff Pelley said in a press release.

Ryan Joseph Gallant, 40, of Kamloops was charged with one count of sexual assault and was issued a summons to appear in court on June 13.

Police said they had no further comment on the investigation as the case was currently before the court.
