“I’m very surprised. You never see or hear anything like this here,” said the owner of the Twin Streams equestrian center. “It’s still quite a rural area.”

This is the second murder investigation this year in Middlesex County, a largely rural area surrounding London.

On January 11, Middlesex OPP responded at approximately 9 p.m. to a home in North Middlesex, a small community north of Strathroy, and found one person dead.

Police later identified 82-year-old Maria Medeiros as the person found dead in a farmhouse at 4022 Wardell Dr., about a 30-minute drive northwest of London. Emanuel Medeiros, the son of the murdered woman, was charged with second-degree murder.
