Former New York City mayoral candidate accused of punching TikToker Halley Kate allowed to represent herself in court despite new assault allegations

The failed mayoral candidate accused of punching TikToker Halley Kate on the streets of New York will represent himself at trial after pleading not guilty.

Skiboky Stora, 40, allegedly punched the social media star in the face while she was walking in the Chelsea neighborhood on March 25.

He appeared in New York Supreme Court on Tuesday, where he pleaded not guilty to third-degree assault as part of a hate crime and asked to be allowed to represent himself.

Judge Althea Drysdale warned him he might not be able to mount a good defense because he lacked the skills of a trained lawyer, but said he understood the risks.

Prosecutors alleged that hate crimes occurred in Stora over a six-month period, from September 2023 to March this year, and that the victims also included a 17-year-old boy going to school, a vice principal and a Jewish couple.

They asked the judge to increase bail from $10,000 to $25,000, but that offer was rejected and a restraining order was issued on behalf of the four alleged victims.

TikTok star Kate, 23, recorded herself moments after being punched in the face and pointed to a large “devil’s horn”-sized bump on the left side of her forehead in a video that has been viewed more than 50 million times.

Stora was arrested two days after the incident and was linked to a series of other attacks that took place in the city.

He asked to be represented at the final hearing and told the court: “I don’t want you to violate my rights. The white judge said that as a black person I had no right to represent myself.

Judge Drysdale told him he was risking conviction because he might not be able to present an adequate defense, but he said he understood and she ruled she could represent herself.

Manhattan Assistant District Attorney Edward Smith asked Stora’s bail to be increased to $25,000 because he faces a longer sentence due to the more severe charges.

“The defendant is charged with six months of hate crimes between September 2023 and March 2024.” – he said.

“One of the victims is a white 17-year-old who was walking to school and crossed paths with the defendant.

He elbowed him in the neck and told him you think you can do whatever the fuck you want.

“On October 26, 2023, the defendant attacked the second victim, who was the vice principal of the primary school, a light-skinned Latina.

“The accused, completely unprovoked, elbowed her on the left arm, causing a bruise.”

The influencer, who has over a million followers on TikTok, said she lost consciousness and fell to the floor after the attack.

The prosecutor added that Stora was allegedly tearing down posters of kidnapped Israeli hostages at East 15th Street and Fifth Avenue when a Jewish couple captured him on camera.

“The wife, a white Jewish woman with blonde hair, took a photo and continued to watch him tear down more posters,” Smith said.

“He noticed them watching, became furious, followed them and shouted at them. He paced back and forth, following them and shouting, “Fuck you, white boy, you want to fight.”

“When the couple ran into the hall, the defendant followed them inside. He said: “Die, Jews, die.”

He added: “On March 25, 2024, the final victim, a young white woman, was looking at her phone when the defendant punched her in the head and knocked her to the ground.”

Stora allegedly shouted “watch where you’re going” during the incident involving TikTok star Kate.

Every time the defendant struck, he went for a walk with his black and white dog. He was wearing the same jacket and holding the same leash,” the prosecutor said.

“He normally harasses women he doesn’t know, and when accosting clearly uncomfortable women, he uses racist and misogynistic comments.”

Stora, however, denied the allegations as “lies” and said: “Judge, I believe the prosecution is using this bail as a weapon to violate my rights and due process.

“I have $10,000 bail, I have nothing to hide. “I’m just an American citizen who loves his country and came as a refugee.”

He claimed he tore up the hostage posters because he was cleaning up his community and he had never met Kate in his life.

Judge Drysdale denied the bail modification request, but issued a full order of protection and ordered Stora to return to court on August 6.

Stora has run for office in New York several times, including running for mayor, governor and city council member in the last three years.

In addition to regularly running unsuccessfully for public office, he also performs as a rapper under the pseudonym Designer Attitude.

Many other women said they were victims of random violence on the streets of Manhattan.

In the video, which has gained 7.4 million views, TikTok personality Mikayla Toninato says she was punched in the face while walking home from class.

Toninato said she was looking at her phone and texting when a man appeared out of nowhere and punched her in the face.

“I don’t know if it’s talked about out loud,” Toninato said, referring to Halley Kate’s similar story.

She warned her followers not to walk around with their phones and to be “very aware” of their surroundings.

Mallik Miah, 30, was arrested in March and charged with the broad daylight attack on Toninato, 27, in Greenwich Village.
