A public security official loses trial for online attacks on the daughters of a murdered couple

The Shenzhen District Court has ruled against a former public security official in eastern China’s Jiangxi Province in an online defamation suit, saying he damaged the reputations of the two daughters of a murdered couple when he attacked them for questioning the police response.

The Shenzhen Longgang People’s Court ordered Xin Ping, former spokesman of the Fuzhou Public Security Bureau, to make a public apology to the plaintiffs on his social media accounts and pay them 5,000 yuan ($690) in compensation for emotional distress, one of the plaintiffs, Kang Leying, said in this week to Caixin.
