22 injured in accident on Krishnagiri National Highway

A tourist vehicle heading to Hogenakkal from Chennai collided on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, near Bargur in Krishnagiri district, injuring 22 people, including the driver.

The tourist van from Ambattur in Chennai was carrying members of one family and was reported to have left the capital in the early morning hours. According to sources, the vehicle was driven by A. Kalimullah from Perungulathur and at one point he was spotted driving recklessly near Bargur.

The passengers asked the driver to stop for tea and a nap so that he could freshen up before the ride. However, the driver was confident that he could drive. When the vehicle reached Bargur Government Engineering College, located on the national highway in Chennai, the van entered the median. Of the 22 injured, three are seriously injured. All the injured are undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital in Krishnagiri.

Inspector Bargur Valarmathi said driver Kalimullah was arrested for causing the accident.
